Bring Your
Own Device (BYOD):
Carroll County Public Schools has recently permitted students to bring their own devices to school. This includes tablets, phones, e-readers, iPods, and more. A copy of the county guidelines and West Middle’s guidelines can be found on the CCPS and West Middle websites.
I fully expect to maximize the use of this technology within my science classroom for educational purposes. In order to make sure devices are used at appropriate times, I will have a “No Devices” sign posted in my room. Students may ONLY use devices when this sign is taken down, or if they are provided specific permission from the teacher. As with other classroom expectations, failure to use technology appropriately and at appropriate times will result in disciplinary action. Parents will be notified if any student is using devices when not permitted, or for a purpose not educational.
I believe that use of devices will help bring learning to a new level while developing 21st century learners. Students should use devices to delve deeper into concepts that interest them and make them wonder. We will use devices to document lab activities, research scientific questions, create products, communicate learning, and much more. Devices are not required in class this year, but are welcome and encouraged to enhance learning in science!
